Data management in general practice
Overview
The PRSB is working on a project on data management in general practice to standardise the recording of type of encounter/consultation, such as face-to-face consultations in the surgery, home visits, online consultations and telephone consultations.
The overall aim of this work is to improve the data available to practices, local networks or clusters and commissioners in support of local planning, improvement and matching of available staff with the needs of the patients across the practice or locality.
How you can get involved
Building on work undertaken in North-East London ICB and across the four nations, we are considering how standardised recording could be implemented more widely. We would welcome your input into how the data would be used, the benefits of standardising it, what is needed to support implementation and what implementation challenges may come up.
We held a webinar in December 2023 to get professionals’ views and ran a survey in March to collect input from everyone working in general practice, or with GP activity data.
We will be also engaging representatives from the RCGP and others via an online roundtable in March to share our progress to date and get additional feedback on the terms and implementation.
